Cheddar Caves & Gorge Cheddar Caves & Gorge
A major tourist attraction for over 200 years, with plenty to do above and below ground.

We're also a Site of Special Scientific Interest in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where you'll find many rare species.

The Cathedral-like Caves and Britain's biggest Gorge are million-year-old Ice Age river beds.

Your ancestors have lived here for 40,000 years, and world-famous Cheddar Man is Britain's oldest complete skeleton.

If you'd like to try our RockSport Adventure Activities, organise a School or Group visit, or just enjoy a quiet cream tea, visit our website!

Mendip AONB service Mendip AONB service
Since 1985 the Avon and Somerset County councils have operated a service on the hills to help and advise visitors, to assist farmers and landowners and to do practical work such as vegetation management, waymarking, stile and gate building, tree planting, wall repairs and litter clearance. The wardens are assisted by a team of voluntary rangers who assist with the practical work and advice to the public during busy times.

For further information tel 01761 462338.
